TimeSplitters 2 was released in October 2002 as a multi-platform title, a change from the original game which was a PlayStation 2 exclusive. The developer, Free Radical Design, was founded by several former Rare employees who had worked on the acclaimed Nintendo 64 shooters GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark, which heavily influenced the design philosophy of TimeSplitters 2.
