The game takes place 150 years before the events of the first Suikoden game, making it the first prequel in the series. It tells the story of a young knight apprentice from the island of Razril who becomes the bearer of the Rune of Punishment, a powerful and cursed True Rune that slowly drains the life force of its wielder. Exiled and branded a traitor, the protagonist must gather the 108 Stars of Destiny to fight the expansive Kooluk Empire and uncover the truth behind his fate.
